What do you need to know about paper and cardboard recycling?

Paper and cardboard are popular and versatile packaging and printed materials. Both paper and cardboard are readily recyclable, made from natural fibre that can be broken down and re-manufactured into new products.

Although the world has been heading toward a paperless society, our consumption of paper and cardboard is actually increasing. Much of this is being driven by deliveries and online purchases, dramatically increasing the need for packaging and cardboard delivery boxes. More positively, many manufacturers are choosing paper and cardboard over plastic packaging, recognising the ready recyclability of natural fibres.

What happens to your waste?

After the paper and cardboard is collected, our staff transport the material to a baling facility where the material is separated into types and grades before being compacted into bales.

Bales are then sold through our Commodity Trading Desk to recycling plants where it is then washed to remove inks and contaminants. The resulting paper and cardboard is then mixed with water to create a slurry which is spread using large rollers into large thin sheets. This is left to dry before it is rolled up, ready to be cut to shape and sent back into the market.
